Hollywood funnyman Steve Carell, who spends his summers in Marshfield, Marshfield Hills General Store was an opportunity too good to pass.
“It’s an emotional investment of a company,” Carell said its recent acquisition of the shop.
“I saw the opportunity to help preserve a piece of history,” Carell said in an e-mail. “I also think that places like the Marshfield Hills General Store is a place of reunion, and give people a sense of community. These places are increasingly rare. I hope it to keep alive. “
Carell has acquired stores in October, when her sister Tish Vivado went to California to visit Carell and his sister, actress Nancy Walls. According Vivado, who lives in Marshfield, Carell has always been interested in joining the community. Carell has bought the store in November and the property has changed hands on New Year’s Day.
The shop is now organized by Vivado and staff of four. But they could help high-profile summer, when Carell is considering taking an active role in day to day.
“I’ll be manning the cash register, shelving and storage as time allows! says Carell, a native of Massachusetts. “For the moment, however, I’m looking for the building a little TLC.”
